Les Miserables

Les Miserables.... was.... GREAT!!!! It was completely not what I was expecting, which was a movie that actually had.........

Lines?

Les Mis was ALL songs. They probably said ten words in the whole movie. Yet, it wasn't cheesy or overdone. Hugh Jackman, starring as Jean Valjean, had a very vibrattoey, but strong voice. Russel Crowe, playing the part of Javert, had an amazing voice, but didn't, in my opinion, show enough passion in his singing. Amanda Seyfried, as old Cosette, had an amazing soprano voice, but was really ugly....... :) Samantha Banks, as Eponine, had an amazing alto voice, and was also really pretty! But Anne Hathaway, as Fantine, absolutely stole the show with I Dreamed A Dream. She made me get the biggest goose bumps in the whole show (and I had a lot).

So altogether I loved the show. After getting the entire Broadway soundtrack, it was amazing. Listening to it right now!

I would recommend this movie to above 12, due to one raunchy scene.

Broadway is the Best

I just needed to write a post on how amazing Broadway musicals are. I have a whole playlist on Grooveshark of Broadway and Disney music. It's amazing! Here's a ranked list of my favorite musicals/movies from Broadway/Disney.

1. Wicked! I love it so much!!! GO GREEN!

2. Newsies- I saw this on Broadway this year. We got to meet an actual actor, who taught us a dance and song! It was amazing! His name was Thayne.

3. Les Miserables- for Choir, we sang a whole bunch of these songs, and I had the honor of a solo! It was so fun!

4. Tangled- Best. Movie. Ever.

5. Lion King- swinging music- awesome.

6. Enchanted- pretty good, but not the best. Amy Adams has a good voice, though.

These are all of my favorites- well, the ones that are in my Broadway playlist! There's also Alice's Theme, which we sang. It was so fun!
So yes, I love Broadway. So never underestimate what I will do if you scorn them!!!! Just kidding :)

PS. Person who know who you are, whose name starts with a J, this was not directed at you. Thanks, you jumpstarted my idea!

Notice Something?

Did you notice something? Particularly about my SIDEBAR? Hmmm? Nope? Ok.

I took of the poll about........ contests!

The majority wins. Sixteen people voted for it, four people voted I don't care, and one person voted no. Whoever you are, you stink. Just so you know.

So I have decided to bring about the premiere of contests! The sad thing is, I don't have any ideas for them. Soooo......

Let's have a contest to decide some contest ideas!

Comment (this may be dangerous, as others can see your ideas) or email me at acflowerpower@gmail.com your ideas for contests. Email quickly, because I can close the contest as soon as I want to! I'll pick my favorite one, then the winner will get a guest post on my blog. This is VALUABLE, people! This means you can post anything you want! So send in your contest results now!

Oops.

My head is between my legs. I've failed you all.
Sorry, I failed my Epic Blog Challenge! I do think I'll try it again sometime, although not now. I'm not up for it. It probably didn't help that I did it on Thanksgiving week, either. So yeah. I'll try to post frequently, and TRY every day, but it won't happen every day (as is evident from my previous words....).

I'll still be doing Somnolent Saturday aaaaand..........

The new and improved Frugal Friday! On Fridays, I'll be posting about ways to save money, which will include DIY projects, refashionings, and many other topics!

Check back soon for more posts!

EBA: Randomness pictures from me

Here are some random pictures that I took. I decided to show you a contrast between my curly hair (i.e. straight out of a bun.....) and my straight hair (i.e. straight out of the straightener....) So yes- here are my contrasting hair types.

[caption id="attachment_137" align="aligncenter" width="819"] My "curly" hair..... beautiful face, right?[/caption]

[caption id="attachment_138" align="aligncenter" width="819"] my "straight" hair.... once again, nice face, right?[/caption]

Both are fake. Neither is real. Unfortunately, my natural hair lies right in between them. Gross.

So I bet you're glad this post is finished. Because it was slightly boring, right?

Yep.

EBA: Happy Thanksgiving!!!!!

Stuffed yet?

I sure am. Goodness, I love Thanksgiving so much. I think it's sad how people just think of it as a time to eat, sleep, and watch football. We have so much to be thankful for and we take it all for granted! Let's all think of five or more things we're thankful for. Here's mine, post yours in the comments.

1. Fall

2. Dance

3. Turkey

4. Cameras

5. Family

6. Friends who care

7. My nice warm bed

8. Cold days with fluffy blankets

9. Coffee

10. Colorful leaves

Happy Thanksgiving!!!

EBA: A Very Strange Dream

In the case of having nothing to write about, I've decided to give you all a window into my dreaming life. Before you begin, let me warn you- I never have a normal dream. Don't judge me from what my mind makes up when I'm asleep, alright? PS. Some of you might not know the people in this dream. If so, disregard this post.

Without further ado, The Strangest New York Trip of My Life.

We were going to NYC for the Lancaster Academy’s trip to see the Broadway show (we go every year). My buddy was Maggie Becker. We went to see the 9/11 memorial, and there was a HUGE wall that had LOTS of names on it. I said, “Is that the people that died?” Rachel Newswanger came up and said “No, you stupid person, that’s the wall where the dead people from other countries are written. THAT’S the wall where the names of the people that died are written.” And there was a wall that was really tiny and had four names on it. There was a shallow man-made river that was part of it that you had to walk down. I had my camera in my bag without a camera case. Suddenly these waves started coming, and one knocked over Euan, who was next to us. He came back up fine, but he was all wet so I started worrying about my camera. Then a wave came and knocked me over. It got my whole bag soaked, and I thought I had lost my camera, but then I found it in my purse and it was dry. And then my bag started drying as soon as I got up out of the water. Mrs. LaSala was standing on this bridge and we were right in front of it so she saw the whole thing and she was yelling at us to get out because the sharks were coming! So we did. Then we went to this big building (no idea what it was) that was really skinny and tall. All it was was a big rectangular prism with stairs winding up it.  And we all split up and went in the building. My group was me, Maggie Becker, Matthew Wilhelm, and Megan. And Matthew was in a black jumpsuit thing with guns on it. We were going up the huge stairs that went all the way to the top. The stairs were the building with walls around them and there were little landings where, on every floor, there was a man who looked the same on every floor giving out tests to adults who looked really scared. And on every floor Matthew dramatically pulled out his gun and said “Get behind me!” And one time we hid behind a wall and listened to the man and he was saying how if they didn’t ace the tests he would kill them. Then he saw us and turned all nice and said “Hello, what can I help you with? Would you like to take these easier tests for kids?” and handed us all pink ones. And we said no thanks and went back downstairs. Then I woke up.

So yes. You have now seen through a window into my mind. What a weird night that must have been...........

Abandoned Places

Here are some pictures of beautiful, abandoned places. They could be so beautiful, but the thing that sets them apart from other places is the abandonment gives them their beauty.

Abandoned British sea forts- a lonely collection of sea forts used by the British in World War II stands not far off the coast of Eastern England.

City Hall Subway station, NYC- Under New York city lays the City Hall Subway station, which was in use for 100 years then shut down.

Ryugyung Hotel- In Pyongyang, North Korea, a huge unfinished hotel stands. Construction of the building was started in 1987 and halted in 1992 when the North Korean government simply ran out of money. However, the hotel may not stand abandoned for much longer, because the construction was restarted in 2008.

Muromtzevo Mansion- This rotting Russian mansion stands deserted near Moscow.

This is so sad....

Alright, well first of all, this is sad because this is the second time I have had to write this post. The first stinkin' time, my Safari window on my mom's iPad decided to close itself and delete my post.

So....

Ok, I am ashamedly admitting that I was so bored of what to write, I went, head held low and tail between legs, to an automatic blog post idea generator.

But, before you judge me, I came up with a spectacular idea: 4 Things You Hate About Salt.

So here it goes.

1. If you eat too much of it, it burns your tongue and throat.

2. If your stupid salt shaker lid decides to plug the holes for a minute, so you shake it really hard, and then decides to unplug the holes, instead of Soupé al la Puacé, you get Sált a la Sált.

3. If you are on a field trip and you just ran out of water, and your mom decided to give you oversalted peanuts for lunch and you decide to eat them.

4. If you eat too much of it, you get water retention.

Yes, that last one was a last resort.

Goodbye for now.

The Keys to the Kingdom

Ok, let's kick off the second post with a book review!

The Keys to the Kingdom was a GREAT series! I would HIGHLY recommend these to anyone who asked.

What I loved about these was their clean-ness and analogies.

First of all, let me give you a brief summary.

Arthur Penhaligion is an ordinary boy, until he enters the House (analogy- House of the Lord) and has to defeat 7 Morrow Days that defy the Will. The Will is made by the Architect (analogy- Creator, God) and it is how the Architect wants the world to go. The Will has been broken into seven parts by the Morrow Days. It is presented as a frog, bear, carp, snake, beastish thing, raven, and apple tree. It is wise. In each book, Arthur regains one key and one part of the will, and defeats one Morrow Day (Mister Monday, Grim Tuesday, Drowned Wednesday, Sir Thursday, Lady Friday, Superior Saturday, and Lord Sunday). I'm not spoiling it for you, don't worry. After defeating all of them, somehow (not telling how) Arthur becomes the Architect.

These were the first books I have read in 2 years that didn't have a single vulgar word, scene, or anything at all. They are TOTALLY clean from anything.

The analogies were fantastic. Matthew 16:19 - "I will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven." This really is the whole topic around which the plot is built.

Another example of biblical analogies is the affliction of each Morrow Day with one of the seven deadly sins that results from their choice not to obey the Will.

Mister Monday: Sloth

Grim Tuesday: Greed

Drowned Wednesday: Gluttony

Sir Thursday: Rage

Lady Friday: Lust

Superior Saturday: Envy

Lord Sunday: Pride

Nothing represents sin. Sin will consume us all if we let it, as will Nothing. The Architect stands as the Creator, God. The Compleat Atlas of the House is a book that helps Arthur throughout the series. All he has to do is ask it a question and it will give him wise knowledge on that subject. This stands as the Bible. The Architect also has three sons that could stand as the Trinity. The Incomparable Gardens represents the Garden of Eden, and Superior Saturday's tower built to reach the Gardens represents the Tower of Babel (an attempt to reach heaven).

Arthur also could be portrayed as a Jesus figure, because he saves the universe from Nothing (sin). He also was adopted (representing Jesus's "adopted" mother and father, Mary and Joseph).

The Old One represents what will happen if we sin and do not repent. He is chained to a clock, and every hour, two puppets come out and take out his eyes, which grow back. (Also a Prometheus character.)

The Denizens represent us when we have eternal life in heaven. They cannot die and fatal wounds can heal almost immediately.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who is looking for something to read. Here is the information:

Series: Keys to the Kingdom

Titles: Mister Monday, Grim Tuesday, Drowned Wednesday, Sir Thursday, Lady Friday, Superior Saturday, and Lord Sunday.

Author: Garth Nix

Pressure.......

Yeah. This is how I feel every time I write my first blog post... Uhhh....

Ah yes! Hello, I am Ashley, and this is my blog. I'll be writing all sorts of random things on here, from Book/Movie Reviews to I Completed an Item on My Bucket List posts. So hang on, because you're along for the ride.

So in this first post, I've decided that I'm going to tell you all about my blog title, My Geeky Ramblings. If you think that link takes you anywhere, you're wrong. It takes you right back to where you are. Fun, right? Click it again! I dare you!

Just kidding, don't. Because that would be dumb. And.... Well, I guess I can't say you're not dumb, because I don't know who's reading this. But anyway, back to the point (If you are confused right now, immediately exit this site before I make your brain explode. Please.)- my blog title.

My Geeky Ramblings- I admit- came from an automatic blog name generator. BUT- but but but- I did not just choose this because it sounded cool.

Here's how it went- I clicked the "Generate Blog Name" button (I used Gzzt, if you're having trouble thinking of a name, I HIGHLY recommend this site). This was the first name that came up -Geeky Ramblings. I wrote that down on a scrap of paper and kept clicking. Throughout my use of this awesome button, I came up with about six or seven names, including Foolish Dreams, Grey Thoughts, and Nerdy Notebook (all of which I thoroughly enjoyed), but I decided to use this one.

Why? I'm not sure. I guess it just sounded like me- I would consider myself a geek (it's called Dr. Who, Star Wars, and Psych), and I ramble and blab a TON on blog posts (you people who are clicking the red x right now understand). So that's how my blog name came about.

I'm suppose you're wondering when I will be admitted into the insane asylum. I'm pretty sure they're expecting us on Saturday. If you're still reading this, see you there!

~Ashley
