Coffee Cake in a Mug

I absolutely hate breakfasts.

IMG_9156

I find cereal, toast, and anything else except bacon and eggs disgusting.

IMG_9151

I usually eat leftovers from the fridge when I eat breakfast.

IMG_9152

But the story isn't over. I found a delicious, fast, and easy recipe for coffee cake in a cup.

IMG_9150

Well, this was a few months ago, and I have made the mugcake several times since. Here is the recipe.

Coffee Cake in a Mug

Ingredients:

1 tbs butter

2 tbs sugar

1 egg

2 tbs sour cream

vanilla

1/4 cup all purpose flour

1/8 tsp baking powder

crumb topping (see below)

OR

Nutella (not both, that's gross.)

Procedure:

1. SOFTEN not melt the butter in a large mug in the microwave.

IMG_9137

2. Fork in the sugar until creamy.

IMG_9139

3. Add some egg. I usually use a whole one, but you don't have to. Mix.

IMG_9140

4. Add the sour cream and some DROPLETS of vanilla. Not dribbles. Droplets. Mix.

IMG_9143

5. Add 2 tbs of nutella IF you are using it.

IMG_9142

6. Add the flour. I used gluten free, but it's the same for regular flour. Also add the baking powder. Mix.

IMG_9145

7. If you didn't add nutella, mix the following with your fingers in a small bowl and sprinkle on top (I didn't):

1 tbs butter

2 tbs flour

1 tbs brown sugar

1/2 tsp cinnamon

IMG_9148

8. Put in microwave for one minute MAKING SURE IT DOESN'T GO OVER THE TOP! If it still looks REALLY wet and jiggles when you shake it, microwave for 10 seconds more. If needed, 10 seconds more. I usually do 1 minute and 15 seconds.

9. Eat. Careful, it's hot.

We bought some Trader Joe's "Cocoa Almond Spread". It tastes just like Nutella, but a VERY faint almondy taste and it's a bit less sticky. BUT it has way less fat and sugar. Yes, please.

How to Take in a T-shirt

Ever get a big, boxy t-shirt from a performance, church event, or club?

IMG_9011

Here's how to take it in so it fits like a normal tee.

1. Start with your shirt- I have already cut off the neck, do so if wanted. It depends on how tight it is around your neck. Mine was pretty tight, so I cut it off.

2. Turn the shirt inside out and smooth it on a floor or table. Make sure there are no creases or folds in the fabric.

IMG_9012

3. Place a normal t-shirt (or one you've already taken in, in my case) onto the shirt. Line up the SHOULDERS and the top of the sleeves FIRST. Then smooth it out all the way, making sure there are no creases or folds.

IMG_9014

4. Draw with a marker around the edges of the shirt on the following places: under the sleeves, down the sides of the shirt. Go all the way to the edges of the working shirt, not the model shirt. (See picture below)

IMG_9017

5. Remove the model shirt. Pin directly on the lines.

IMG_9018

6. Sew all along the lines, making sure to stay right on the lines.

IMG_9027

7. Turn the shirt right side out. DO NOT FEAR! I know it will be all bunched up-this is due to the extra fabric inside the shirt! We'll fix this in a minute. First, try on the shirt and make sure it fits. If it doesn't, make adjustments with a marker and sew again.

IMG_9028

8. Turn the shirt back inside out and cut off the excess fabric on the outside of the sewn edge. Also to the sleeves!

IMG_9029

IMG_9031

9. Turn the shirt right side out and try it on one more time. If there are bubbly parts, turn it back inside out, and mark/pin/sew it again.

IMG_9032

11. Congratulations! You took in the shirt! You can also hem the neckline and shorten the bottom if wanted/needed.

Randomness From Aussiebloggers.com

I happened upon a random blog post generator today and decided to try it out. It was rather like a mad lib, except you got to choose what you wanted to say. So without further ado, aussiebloggers.com.au/blogpost.html's post generator.

"Blimey! I just returned from my daily swim on the beautiful Fijian beach and realised I have not updated this since people stopped clapping and Tinkerbell died... You would not believe that my hands were chopped off and I was waiting for bionic ones. I prostrate myself in sorrow and beg thy forgiveness..

I am lost in a sea of pseudo-olde-english and I am busy with with setting fire to people wearing Crocs, learning to fart the theme to neighbours, and just generally being the life of the party to my cats. My day seems to be a litany of stuff and giggles from the second I am woken by murderous Teletubbies to early afternoon. I am avoiding recapture. it will be fun fun fun till they take my T-Bird away.

I will try to remember I promised you I will write something that makes sense soon. You wanna test me? Don't hold your breath though, you're likely to turn blue..."

Art Journaling 101

Art journaling is so much fun, I don't even know how to say how much I love it.

Basically, you get an hardback book (rather old, but not so old the pages are falling out) with a nice cover, and you paint/draw/make art in it.

I use Treasure Island, a nice but cheap copy that my mom got from a book sale a few years ago and has been sitting downstairs on the shelf ever since (no one has read it). It has a red ribbon for a bookmark, too, which can come in handy.

Here are some examples of my art journaling.

I also, as you can see, write little quotes, memos, or word pictures. Very fun stuff, I tell you. So I recommend getting a book and starting to paint/draw/make art. Be creative!

Funny Story...

Funny story, hehe......

At a babysitting job yesterday from 4-6. I get home and walk in, expecting to see my dog assaulting me from the floor, so I looked down. Instead I am met with a scream from about 32 people, "Surprise!"

Scared me to death.

Turns out, even the babysitting job was a set-up. My kind mother took ten dollars from my own wallet and gave it to the mother to pay me.

But, I cannot complain. That party was the best part of my entire birthday so far (the rest has not happened yet). Thanks so much to my wonderful sister who planned most of it. Thanks to all my wonderful friends who were at it.

I love you guys!

"Place Name Here"

For this post, I'm going to sneak peek the prologue of a book that my friend and I are writing (Margaret, I hope this is ok with you... :D). Since we haven't thought of a name yet, we've been calling it "Place Name Here".

So without further ado, the beginning of, "Place Name Here".

The cool breeze set his heart in a flurry. The sense in the air was surreal. The atmosphere outside of his body was soothing, but inside he was being torn from limb to limb. Finnegan struggled to understand why. Why they were all gone. What had happened to all his loved ones? The ones he cared for since he was a young boy. They all disappeared.

Finnegan stood on the edge of a cliff. The wind almost knocked him from the rim. He could feel the earth about to cry out in horror with him. He let out a terrifying cry from the very depths of his throat. His voice bounced off the surrounding mountains, crying back to him. A single lonely tear spilled from his eye. It traveled down his shaking face. He didn’t bother to conceal his tears. Finnegan collapsed to the dirt-covered ground, trembling. The skies opened up and poured their tears onto the mourning world below.

________________________________________________________________________

Another part of the book:

“The army! The army! Boy, you listen closely! If you lie one more time I’ll…”

“I’m not lying! They took her! They took all of them!”

“You expect me to believe they took her and not you? Fool,” the man shouted.

“They tried to take me but I escaped. Sabina was not so lucky. Please, you have to believe me! It’s the truth!” Finnegan pleaded.

The man looked to the guard. “There is a battle about to emerge, sire. He could be telling the truth. I know my hometown was ravaged for soldiers. It could be true, sire.”

The man huffed and turned to face Finnegan. “We will follow this so called army. You will come with us. If we do not find your sister, you-” he grinned evilly, “will face a punishment worse than death.”

Finnegan gulped. He could not imagine what this man would do to him if Sabina was not found.

The man said, “We will not need this one-“ he pointed at Leila. “Kill her.” The guard beside Leila raised his blade, ready to strike at any instant. Finnegan screamed, “NOOOO!”

A blade sliced through the air and came down on flesh.

_________________________________________________________________________

Finnegan woke. His first thought was Leila. He tried to sit up, but some unseen force stopped him. He looked to his side through a haze of fog and saw the stakes driven into the floor, felt the ropes that bound his hands and feet. He gave a cry of desperation and thrashed fruitlessly.

After several minutes of unsuccessful efforts, he relaxed and looked at his surroundings. He was lying on a thin blanket, which didn’t at all mask the hardness of the packed earth floor. His hands and feet were tied securely to the stakes, keeping him from moving at all. The ropes that bound him were thick and tight, and he winced as he felt the chafed skin underneath, a painful result of his escape effort. Sweat mixed with blood and tears dripped into his eyes, burning them.

He couldn’t think about any of these things right now. All he could think about was- Leila. Dear Leila. Sweet Leila. Beautiful Leila. He must have passed out when she was struck, because he remembered nothing but the raised sword. He tried to find some way out of the truth, but he couldn’t. The blow was too harsh, the guard too strong. She was gone.
